We Analyzed 200 Viral Posts

And "the 10% rule"

Welcome back to Viral Examples.

Today (in 2 mins or less) we're going to challenge everything you know about creating "valuable" content.

Here's a stat that changed how I think about content: The average reader remembers only 10% of what they read after 24 hours.

But that number jumps to 65% when the content focuses on a single, clear idea.

This explains why comprehensive threads rarely go viral — and why "basic" posts often do.

Your audience doesn't need more information. They need deeper understanding.

We analyzed 200 viral posts from the past 90 days. → 90% focused on ONE idea → 75% used examples to deepen (not broaden) the core idea

Here's how to apply this:

1/ Pick your boldest POV

Not your safest one. Not your most nuanced one.

The one that almost makes you a little nervous to post. This is the one that the audience will resonate with (whether they agree or not).

2/ Double down on that idea

Don't water it down with "but sometimes..."

Don't add "on the other hand..."

Don't try to please everyone.

Nuance kills virality.

If you have a big opinion, stick to it and build out your argument.

3/ Lean heavy on “deep, not broad” examples

Examples hit harder than explanations.

Instead of "Email marketing still works" → you could write "Cold email got us 100 clients while our social posts got us 0"

4/ Use these writing tips

When you write: → Cut any sentence that introduces a new concept → Remove paragraphs that start with "however" or "but" → Delete anything that feels like "balance"

Your job isn't to be comprehensive. Your job is to make one point so clearly that it changes behavior.

That's why threads with 17 tips get likes...but posts about ONE tip get acted on.

And action drives shares.
